ViandPro island cooker hoods provide dedicated extraction above hobs positioned on kitchen islands and peninsulas. The 90cm Maestro combines stainless steel and black glass with strong extraction, touch controls and integrated LED lighting, creating a practical overhead extractor for open-plan cooking areas where a conventional wall-mounted hood cannot be used.
Island Cooker Hoods for Open-Plan Kitchen Extraction
An island cooker hood is designed for kitchens where the hob is positioned away from a wall, typically within a central island or peninsula. Suspended from the ceiling directly above the cooking area, it provides dedicated extraction without relying on surrounding wall units or cabinetry.
The ViandPro Maestro is a 90cm island cooker hood finished in brushed stainless steel and black glass. Its suspended design makes it particularly suited to contemporary and open-plan kitchens where the extractor is visible from several directions and forms part of the overall kitchen design.
Extraction above a kitchen island
Cooking on an island creates different extraction requirements from a wall-mounted hob. With no wall behind the cooking area to help contain rising steam and vapour, correct hood positioning and suitable extraction performance become particularly important.
The Maestro provides three extraction speeds with airflow ranging from approximately 306.9 m³/h to 525.2 m³/h, together with a boost setting reaching 680 m³/h. This allows the extraction level to be adjusted according to the type and intensity of cooking.
A 90cm island cooker hood
The current ViandPro island hood uses a 90cm canopy, making it a natural choice above many wider hobs installed within kitchen islands. The dimensions of the hob, extractor and available ceiling space should all be checked before ordering.
Correct positioning is especially important with an island extractor. The hood should be centred over the cooking surface and installed at the height specified for the appliance and hob combination.
Lighting and controls
Touch controls provide access to the three extraction speeds and boost function, while an automatic shut-down timer allows the extractor to continue operating briefly after cooking has finished.
An integrated LED lighting panel provides illumination over the hob and preparation area below. Because an island hood often sits in a prominent position within the room, combining extraction and task lighting within the same appliance helps keep the cooking area visually uncluttered.
Ducted or recirculating installation
The Maestro can be installed for either external extraction or recirculation. Where a suitable ceiling duct route is available, ducted extraction carries cooking vapours, grease and odours outside the property.
Where external ducting is impractical, the hood can instead operate in recirculation mode using the appropriate optional carbon filters. Washable aluminium grease filters are included for routine filtration and maintenance.
Planning an island hood installation
Installation should be considered early in the kitchen design process. Unlike a wall cooker hood, an island extractor requires suitable ceiling support as well as provision for the electrical connection and, where applicable, ducting.
Check the hood dimensions against the width and position of the hob.
Confirm the required installation height above the cooking surface.
Make sure suitable structural support is available in the ceiling.
Plan the duct route before completing ceilings where using external extraction.
Allow for the adjustable hood height when planning the finished installation.
Provide access for regular grease filter cleaning and carbon filter replacement where required.
